OUR HISTORY
Prana pratistha refers to the rite or ceremony by which a murti (image of a god) is consecrated in a Hindu temple, wherein hymns and mantras are recited to invite the deity to be a resident guest, and the idol's eye is opened for the first time.
Prana Pratishta Mahotsava of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra & Lord Sudarshana was performed at the Hindu Society of North Carolina(HSNC) temple at Morrisville from 18th to 20th December 2015.
Jagannatha (meaning "Lord of the Universe”), is a deity worshipped by Hindus and Buddhists around the world. Jagannath is considered a form of Vishnu (conceived as "the Preserver or the Protector") or his avatar Krishna by the Hindus. Jagannath is worshipped along with his brother Balabhadra, sister Subhadra and his divine weapon Sudharshana. The main temple of Lord Jagannath is a prime pilgrimage site for Hindus. It was built in 11th century and is located on the eastern coast of India, at Puri in the state of Odisha, India.
The English word 'Juggernaut' originated from Jagannath and it means an unimaginably large and overpowering force.
